Welcome !!

Welcome to the Port Vila game Fishing Club website.

The club has been established for some time, 15 years or more, and runs on a very much Island style basis.
We are not very big in numbers but we do make sure we have fun when we get together.

Our aims -

The betterment and advancement of Salt Water Game Fishing in Vanuatu.
To act in and support any person or body concerned in the Protection, Tag and Release,
and Conservation of Salt water Fish and of Sport Fishing Grounds.
To accurately weigh and keep records of fish caught on rod, reel and line,
in accordance with P.V.G.F.C and I.G.F.A Rules.
But above all - have fun doing it !!
The offshore waters surrounding Port Vila yield wahoo, yellow fin tuna, skipjack, marlin and short billed spearfish.
The reefs produce some good sized giant trevally and some very impressive dog tooth tuna.
Member’s boats range in size from 5 metres and on up to 34 foot Black Watch and 38 Luhrs game boats.

The Club stages several annual comps with the fishing year kicking off with the Ladies and Juniors followed by the Easter 6kg line class comp,
fished out of Havannah Harbour on the other side of the island.

The major comp for the Club is our November Game Fish Classic held over 2 days.
The comp is tag and release of all billfish with points for fish captured added.
The winning team receives an invitation to fish the World Offshore Titles held in Costa Rica with entry fees paid as part of the prize.
Fishing can be good all year round, though the most consistent months are May to November
for the widest variety of game with hotter summer months and cyclonic conditions
with warmer waters seeing a slow down in activity though this can be the time for runs of larger yellowfin tuna up to 80kg.
Winter conditions are dominated by south easterly trade winds, though the mountainous interior of Efate Island offers a large lee shore on windier days
and with deep water very close to the island there is always an opportunity to target the larger pelagic in the lee.

Visitors are more than welcome to get in touch before or after you arrive and catch up on what’s happening at the time fish wise.

Port Vila is a popular tourist destination and travelling fishos are well catered for by the charter operators out of Port Vila harbour.
There are links to the charter skippers on the site.

Vanuatu has the reputation as being the happiest place on Earth, well known for the warmth and friendliness of Ni-Vanuatu right across the country,
and the PVGFC fits right in with that!
